What super power would you like to have?
This question has bounced around in my head many times over the years. I’ve had a hard time settling on one answer.
Flying is an easy choice, because of how exhilarating it would be and the doors it would open as far as personal transportation.
Invisibility or the ability to read minds would also have a lot of fun perks that would come in handy in various personal situations.
I’ve often thought that the ability to change into animals would be so awesome both from a fun and practical perspective.
What has changed my perspective on this question, though, is having kids.
My number one priority is protecting them and keeping them safe. What good would any super powers be if I didn’t have the ability to do that?
Like many parents, I have a lot of those somewhat irrational fears about something bad happening to me or my kids. Driving down the road, thinking, what if that truck swerved into our lane? Walking down the street thinking, what if someone tried to grab one of my kids from me?
Maybe these kinds of catastrophizing thoughts are not the right reason to choose a super power, but I can’t help but want to mitigate them.
I’ve also always had a strong sense of justice. I just can’t stand the thought of evil going unpunished.
Maybe I just have weird issues, but I want that super speed, super strength, practically invincible kind of super power. No one could touch me or my family.
Basically, I want to be Captain Marvel. She’s so badass and so powerful. I could use her powers to protect my family and also try to help other people and take down bad guys.
