How The Nerd Mom Started

I had wanted to become a stay-at-home mom since I had my first baby. I had a demanding job that stole a lot of my time and energy. I wanted to put that time and energy into my kids. But my husband and I were worried about how we would swing it financially.

After I had my second baby, we knew we had to make it happen. We took the leap. I quit my job.

But I’ve always been the type of woman that likes to keep my mind busy and feel a sense of achievement. I started trying to figure out what kind of work I might do from home, on my own schedule.

I’ve always loved to write, so I wanted to start a blog. I was passionate about parenting, but wanted to find a way to stand out in the sea of other mommy blogs out there. My other passions are my nerdy hobbies – books, video games, Star Wars, etc. So, boom! The Nerd Mom!

My Advice for New Bloggers

Blogging is a long game. It’s not a “get rich quick” scheme. And it’s only profitable if you are very persistent and smart about your blog. I’ve only been at it for about seven months, which is a relatively short amount of time for a blog that intends to make money. I’ve made steady progress, but still have a ways to go before I can be profitable. If you want to make it more than a hobby, be patient and learn as much as you can!

It’s also important to remember that no matter what blogging tips and hacks you try to implement, the most important thing you can do on your blog is be authentic and write for your audience. Yes, you will want to learn how to effectively use SEO and create Pinterest pins that go viral, but ultimately, people have to groove with your voice.

  1. That’s awesome that you’re a stay at home mom. I know it’s a lot tougher in this day and age to make that work, but I’m glad you were able to.
