Five Fandom Hunks I’d Love To Have as My Valentine

I’m starting a new series – 5 Fandom Fridays!

This idea comes from Megan Elvrum’s blog. She’s no longer doing the prompts, but it’s a fun way to get ideas for blog posts.

The idea is that every Friday I will post a top five list on a topic relevant to fandoms. It is meant to be a community building project, so feel free to create your own blog posts along with me if the topic interests you!

For my first 5 Fandom Friday, I am celebrating Valentine’s Day by listing my top five fandom crushes. Here are the hunks who I wouldn’t mind having as Valentines this year!

1. Geralt of Rivia

Geralt of Rivia is the main character from a fantasy book series called The Witcher by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Geralt is a “witcher”, a person with magical abilities that allow them to combat monsters and beasts.

The books have previously been adapted into everything from films, to video games, to graphic novels. Most recently, Netflix created The Witcher TV series starring Henry Cavill (yummm) as the titular character.

I was introduced to The Witcher through the video games, and I definitely felt there was something undeniably sexy about Geralt. He’s the quiet, rugged type; a guy who appears cold and unfeeling on the surface, but has a soft heart and desire to help people underneath.

I was attracted to the video game version of Geralt, and I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when I found out Henry Cavill was playing him. Don’t get me wrong, Mr. Cavill is certainly a fine specimen, but his previous roles depicted him as a bit more clean cut. I wasn’t sure how he would translate to the rough, scarred sexiness of Geralt.

I was pleasantly surprised, though. I love Cavill as Geralt and think he does an amazing job with the role.

Part of that may be due to the fact that he is a huge fanboy who has read the books and played the video games himself. He petitioned for the role as soon as he heard about the Netflix series and is very passionate about playing Geralt in a way that is true to the stories.

Major props to Cavill for nailing my sexy, brooding monster hunter. I can’t wait to see more of him.

2. Cullen Rutherford

Cullen appears in all three Dragon Age video games by developer Bioware, though his largest (and most romantic) role is in the third game, Dragon Age: Inquisition. He is a former templar (an order created to help control the dangers of magic) and is the commander of the Inquisitor’s forces.

Bioware games are known for their multiple romanceable character options that allow you, as the player, to personalize your game story experience by choosing a love interest.

In DA:I, Cullen is a romanceable character, and it is one of my favorite romances in the series.

Cullen has a bit of a difficult past but is a good man who values honor and loyalty. When you romance him, he is sweet and shy at times, but suave and flirty others. His awkward advances are so endearing but he is always chivalrous and respectful. He’s the guy you want to bring home to your mom.

And come on, he’s gorgeous.

His physical appearance is purely in-game, so the credit for those beautiful blond curls goes to Bioware’s artists. The smooth, British accent of his voice actor, Greg Ellis, contributes immensely to his attractiveness too.

I love my Cully-Wully so much, he’s the subject of a fanfiction I’m working on right now. If you’re interested, you can read it (in-process) here.

3. Cal Kestis

Cal is a Jedi who has survived Order 66, the Jedi purge that occurs in Episode III of the Star Wars timeline. He is the character you play in Jedi: Fallen Order by EA Games.

He might be a bit young for me; I would guess he’s around 18-22 at the time of the main game events. But he’s so adorable. He’s an all-around good guy with a sweet, optimistic spirit. The sad events of his life (the death of his Master, the wiping out of the Jedi) don’t make him bitter or cold.

Actor Cameron Monaghan lends his voice as well as performance capture for Cal’s portrayal, and there is just something so sweet about his youthful demeanor. But he’s also got a strong sense of morality, a gritty determination, and some awesome lightsaber skills. I couldn’t resist putting him on the list.

4. Loki

Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston

Well, not everyone on my Valentine’s list are good guys. Loki is the “God of Mischief” and brother of Thor, who is one of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thor and Loki are Asgardians, powerful alien beings that appear to be godlike to humans. He’s not quite a villain; more of an anti-hero, siding with the good guys when it suits him, betraying them other times.

While Loki is often very naughty in the Marvel movies, he is portrayed as being a bit broken with complex motivations. He is devious and narcissistic but has surprisingly redeeming moments. What can I say, I have a soft spot for the bad boys.

While Loki may not exactly be husband material, his trickster personality would definitely keep things exciting. Tom Hiddleston’s performance of the emotionally unpredictable scoundrel makes Loki even more attractive.

5. Kylo Ren/Ben Solo

Kylo Ren/Ben Solo played by Adam Driver

Kylo Ren/Ben Solo – the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia, the nephew of Luke Skywalker. Strong with the Force like his mother and uncle, this Star Wars protagonist has one of the most tragic back stories, but also one of the most epic redemption arcs.

At first, Kylo Ren seems like the sequel trilogy villain; he wields a red lightsaber, kills his own father, and clearly spends a lot of time on the Dark Side with his wild rages and cruel leadership in the First Order.

When you look at his story across the whole trilogy and some of the auxiliary canon material, Ben Solo’s story is tragic.

He is manipulated by Snoke/the Emperor from a very young age and feels isolated from his parents, heroes to the galaxy with a legacy that places a heavy weight on young Ben’s shoulders. His own uncle, the legendary Luke Skywalker, almost attacks him when he senses the growing Dark Side in him.

Ben is in constant emotional turmoil, caught between the pulls of the Light and the Dark. When he meets a certain young scavenger from Jakku, his connection to her starts to make Kylo Ren’s mask crumble. Falling in love with Rey is ultimately the biggest thing that brings Ben Solo back to the Light Side.

Adam Driver’s unconventional handsomeness and superior acting skills made him the perfect fit for the role. Driver really made Ben’s pain seem so real and his emotional vulnerability is so spot-on.

And the shirtless scene in The Last Jedi proves what an absolute hottie he is.

By the end of the trilogy, all I wanted was for Ben Solo to finally be happy. To be free of his pain. So, because he deserves all the lovin’ and is fine as hell, I would gladly take him as my Valentine!

By the way, you can read more about what makes the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren awesome in this post.

I came here to comment on another post and then got distracted by Adam Driver. I just loved him in the Star Wars movies and I was ready to burn down the theater at the end when he died. And I must be the only human on earth who hasn’t seen The Witcher yet.
