Celebrate Star Wars Day!

With the release of the newest Star Wars trilogy, the Star Wars mythology was extended to the next generation of young fans. Parents and kids alike are now excited to celebrate Star Wars Day.

May 4 was officially deemed Star Wars Day in 2011 and has been an important day for Star Wars fans ever since.

It’s the day fans (adults and kids alike) celebrate their favorite movie franchise that takes place in a galaxy far, far away. Costumes, trivia, movie marathons, and games are just some of the ways the fandom has chosen to celebrate.

Because of COVID-19, some of the ways we might have observed Star Wars Day with our families are not possible. Disney parks are closed, parades and gatherings are banned, and movie theaters are closed.

Here are some ideas to celebrate Star Wars Day with your kiddos this year. All can be done with appropriate social distancing!

Crafts

Grab your construction paper and markers and make a Star Wars themed craft. Even on a rainy day, you can bust out a craft and keep your little Star Wars lovers busy. Many crafts can be done with just what you have laying around your house – no special supplies needed.

Cosplay

Just because you’re not going out doesn’t mean you can’t dress up. Putting together a fun Star Wars cosplay for you and your children would be an exciting way to pay tribute to your favorite characters.

Once your costumes are ready, you can have a special photo shoot in-character. If you really want to go all out, let your neighbors know ahead of time and go for a walk around the neighborhood. A performance of lightsaber battles or a parade of marching storm troopers would really wow the neighbors!

If you enjoy getting creative in the kitchen, you could whip up something Star Wars themed for your Star Wars Day snacks and meals.

I love this list of Star Wars recipes from Sunny Sweet Days blog.

This recipe shows you how to make portion bread just like Rey does on Jakku!

I made some Star Wars Christmas cookies this past holiday season. You don’t need it to be Christmas to make and decorate cookies though. Here’s my Baby Yoda:

There are a lot of resources online for free printables you can download and print to use. With everything from coloring pages to spelling worksheets available, you can incorporate Star Wars into your homeschooling or learning activity routine.

On the Home School Giveaways and Freebies blog, there is a great list of Star Wars themed printables.

I also love these Star Wars mad libs from the Woo Jr blog. My kids are a bit young for mad libs, but these look like they would be so fun when they get a little older.

Games

You wouldn’t believe how many popular games come in Star Wars versions! If you’re a family loves board/card games, this could be a really fun way to celebrate May 4.
